    Forty-nine patients with corpus callosum (CC) anomalies were evaluated in terms of the clinical features and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings. CC anomalies were classified as CC agenesis: 6 (12%), CC hypogenesis: 5 (10%), and CC hypoplasia: 38 (78%). In the CC hypoplasia group the mean value of the genu thickness of the CC was 0.29 +/- 0.1 cm, which was less than the normal value of the age-matched normal children (normal range: 0.6-1.2 cm). The associated brain abnormalities were in five distinct groups: gray matter abnormalities, white matter abnormalities, midline brain structure defects, cortical atrophy, and encephalomalacia. There was no uniformity for the clinical spectrum of CC anomalies. Microcephaly, developmental delay and seizures were the prominent findings in patients.     Whistling face syndrome or cranio-carpotarsal dysplasia is a very rare disorder that consists of a characteristic facies and digital abnormalities. Magnetic resonance imaging investigation of the brain in this syndrome has not been reported previously. this communication describes the brain malformations in an infant with the syndrome, which covered delayed myelination, thickened and infolded cortices (cortical dysplasia), dysplastic corpus callosum, and agenesis of the inferior vermis.     Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome is a syndrome of mental retardation associated with broad thumbs and big toes. The patients have a characteristic flat face with a beaked nose.     A patient with serologically proven congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is described with periventricular calcifications on CT. The condition was associated with the typical cerebellar changes of clinicoradiologically proven Joubert's syndrome. Although this may be a chance association only, the condition raised the question if an early intrauterine CMV infection, which affects the cerebellum, may contribute to the occurrence of Joubert's syndrome.     In the MR imaging study of a 4-yr-old patient the medulla oblongata was detected to be rotated 25 degrees counter-clockwise with respect to the remainder of the brain and skull. A similar condition was not visually detected in the evaluation of consecutive 1100 CT and 500 MR imaging studies, The orientation of the medulla oblongata was then geometrically assessed on selected, axial inversion recovery MR images in a series of 50 normal pediatric patients, It was detected that in 70% of cases (n = 35) a line connecting the anterior median fissure and the posterior median sulcus of the medulla oblongata (interfissural line) was parallel to or blended with a vertical reference line passing through the third ventricle (midplane axis), In 30% of cases (n = 15) the interfissural line deviated from the midplane axis up to 10 degrees.     A patient with serologically proven congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is described with periventricular calcifications on CT. The condition was associated with the typical cerebellar changes of clinicoradiologically proven Joubert's syndrome. Although this may be a chance association only, the condition raised the question if an early intrauterine CMV infection, which affects the cerebellum, may contribute to the occurrence of Joubert's syndrome.     In the MR imaging study of a 4-yr-old patient the medulla oblongata was detected to be rotated 25 degrees counter-clockwise with respect to the remainder of the brain and skull. A similar condition was not visually detected in the evaluation of consecutive 1100 CT and 500 MR imaging studies, The orientation of the medulla oblongata was then geometrically assessed on selected, axial inversion recovery MR images in a series of 50 normal pediatric patients, It was detected that in 70% of cases (n = 35) a line connecting the anterior median fissure and the posterior median sulcus of the medulla oblongata (interfissural line) was parallel to or blended with a vertical reference line passing through the third ventricle (midplane axis), In 30% of cases (n = 15) the interfissural line deviated from the midplane axis up to 10 degrees.
