    International audience; Flows past bluff bodies show turbulent near wall behavior in various conditions. For example, for a high Reynolds incident flow, the boundary layer at front side of a circular cylinder may show a transition to a turbulent boundary layer. After separation, the back of the cylinder is in contact with the turbulent wake. Analogously, the turbulent wake of a first obstacle can hit the front of a second one.

    Straubing's wreath product principle provides a description of the languages recognized by the wreath product of two monoids. A similar principle for ordered semigroups is given in this paper. Applications to language theory extend standard results of the theory of varieties to positive varieties. They include a characterization of positive locally testable languages and syntactic descriptions of the operations L ? La and L ? LaA*. Next we turn to concatenation hierarchies. It was shown by Straubing that the n-th level Bn of the dot-depth hierarchy is the variety Vn * LI, where LI is the variety of locally trivial semigroups and Vn is the n-th level of the Straubing-Thérien hierarchy. We prove that a similar result holds for the half levels. It follows in particular that a level or a half level of the dot-depth hierarchy is decidable if and only if the corresponding level of the Straubing-Thérien hierarchy is decidable.

    Rang CNRS : 1; International audience; We compare the performance of the Boston Immediate Acceptance (IA) and Gale–Shapley Deferred Acceptance (DA) mechanisms in a laboratory setting where we increase the number of participants per match. In our experiment, we first increase the number of students per match from 4 to 40; when we do so, participant truth-telling increases under DA but decreases under IA, leading to a decrease in efficiency under both mechanisms. Furthermore, we find that DA remains more stable than IA, regardless of scale. We then further increase the number of participants per match to 4,000 through the introduction of robots. When robots report their preferences truthfully, we find that scale has no effect on human best response behavior. By contrast, when we program the robots to draw their strategies from the distribution of empirical human strategies, we find that our increase in scale increases human ex-post best responses under both mechanisms.

    La mondialisation des marchés, les changements d’habitudes de consommation et les préoccupations croissantes concernant la sécurité alimentaire et l’environnement sont des éléments moteurs pour le développement des films d’emballage comestibles/biodégradables antimicrobiens. Une utilisation en masse de ce type de film est dépendante principalement des verrous technologiques car le mode de fabrication actuellement utilisé pour ce genre de film consiste à utiliser un procédé (voie solvant) qui n’est pas toujours adapté à une production importante et continue. L’étude présentée ici permet de montrer la possibilité d’obtenir des films comestibles antimicrobiens à partir de caséinate de sodium en utilisant les procédés traditionnels de la plasturgie : extrusion bi-vis et extrusion-gonflage. Grâce aux optimisations des paramètres d’élaboration tels que la température de transformation, le taux de cisaillement et le taux de plastifiant, les matériaux contenant un agent actif naturel : le lysozyme, la nisine ou la natamycine ont gardé en partie leurs activités antimicrobiennes. Par des caractérisations mécaniques et physico-chimiques des films thermoplastiques, il a été démontré que ces films ont des propriétés mécaniques et barrières similaires à ceux fabriqués par voie solvant. Ces propriétés dépendent principalement du taux de plastifiant. Ainsi, il est possible de fabriquer des films comestibles antimicrobiens de caséinate de sodium avec de bonnes propriétés mécaniques et barrières qui ne sont pas affectées par la transformation thermomécanique et qui peuvent être adaptées en fonctions des applications en variant le taux de plastifiant Because food market becomes international, consumers are changing their habits and they are more concerned about food security and environmental issues, there are driving forces for the development of edible/biodegradable antimicrobial packaging films. However, fabrication process (solution-casting) of these kinds of films isn’t always suitable for a continuous industrial big production. The present study demonstrates the suitability of sodium caseinate based edible antimicrobial films to be fabricated by some conventional plastic transformation processes: twinscrew extrusion and blown-film extrusion. Thanks to the optimizations of elaboration parameters such as extrusion temperature, shear and plasticizer ratio, the materials incorporated with one of the following active agents: lysozyme, nisin or natamycin, partially kept their antimicrobial activity. Physical-chemical film characterization of films emphasized that the type of transformation process doesn’t have any influence on tensile or gas barrier properties. These properties are mainly affected by plasticizer type and content. Thus, sodium caseinate based edible antimicrobial films can be produced successfully by thermo-mechanical processes without losing good mechanical and gas barrier properties

    We report the first measurement of the $D^{\ast -}$ meson polarization in the decay $B^0 \to D^{*-} \tau^+\nu_{\tau}$ using the full data sample of 772$\times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded with the Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider. Our result, $F_L^{D^\ast} = 0.60 \pm 0.08 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.04 ({\rm sys})$, where $F_L^{D^\ast}$ denotes the $D^{\ast-}$ meson longitudinal polarization fraction, agrees within about $1.7$ standard deviations of the standard model prediction.     International audience; Various methods have been proposed to characterize the functional connectivity between nodes in a network measured with different modalities (electrophysiology, functional magnetic resonance imaging etc.). Since different measures of functional connectivity yield different results for the same dataset, it is important to assess when and how they can be used. In this work, we provide a systematic framework for evaluating the performance of a large range of functional connectivity measures—based upon a comprehensive portfolio of models generating measurable responses. Specifically, we benchmarked 42 methods using 10,000 simulated datasets from 5 different types of generative models with different connectivity structures. Since all functional connectivity methods require the setting of some parameters (window size and number, model order etc.), we first optimized these parameters using performance criteria based upon (threshold free) ROC analysis. We then evaluated the performance of the methods on data simulated with different types of models. Finally, we assessed the performance of the methods against different levels of signal-to-noise ratios and network configurations. A MATLAB toolbox is provided to perform such analyses using other methods and simulated datasets.

    Cet article présente un état de la réflexion sur la sémantique des noms d’action (Nact) en français. Il s’agit dans un premier temps de déterminer les critères d’identification qui s’appliquent à l’ensemble des Nact, au-delà des prototypes déverbaux, agentifs et prédicatifs. L’aspect dynamique apparaît comme l’élément de définition fondamental de la catégorie. Il implique la double construction avec des expressions temporelles (de localisation ou de durée) et des verbes supports d’action ou d’événement (effectuer, avoir lieu, etc.). L’organisation interne de la classe des Nact est ensuite étudiée, et différents principes d’hétérogénéité sémantique sont détaillés. Il est établi que l’aspect nominal n’est pas calqué sur le modèle verbal, et que certaines propriétés descriptives, touchant à l’individuation des actions et à leur forme de réalisation, relèvent spécifiquement du domaine nominal. Sont enfin examinées les propriétés polysémiques des Nact, d’après leur capacité à dénoter d’autres participants de l’action (agents, instruments, résultats, etc.) et à associer en contexte les interprétations multiples. This paper provides a state-of-the-art overview of the semantics of action nouns (ANs) in French. First, the definition of ANs is investigated, as it should apply to all ANs, not only to prototypical deverbal, agentive and predicative nouns. Dynamicity appears to be the main definitional criterion, which implies that ANs occur with both temporal expressions (of location or duration) and actional or eventive light verbs (effectuer ‘make’, avoir lieu ‘take place’, etc.). Second, the heterogeneity of the AN category is studied, and some semantic differences between ANs are highlighted. It is claimed that nominal aspect does not tally with verbal aspect: there are semantic features related to the individuation of events and the way they occur that only exist in the nominal domain. Third, the polysemy of ANs is scrutinized regarding their ability to denote other participants in the event (agents, instruments, results, etc.), and their ability to combine multiple interpretations in context.

    Le travail de cette thèse s'intéresse à l'identification des efforts (effort tranchant ou moment fléchissant)présents aux limites des structures (plaques ou poutres) à partir de déplacements mesurés. Les expressions analytiques de cesefforts contiennent des termes proportionnels aux dérivées spatiales du déplacement. L'approximation de ces dérivées auxlimites d'une structure est problématique car ces dernières sont très sensibles aux erreurs de mesure et les méthodes classiquesde calcul (différences finies, méthodes modales, transformée de Fourier spatiales, ...) et de régularisation (filtrage en nombred'onde, troncature modale) pour les obtenir ne sont pas adaptées pour une identification aux limites d'un domaine spatial.Dans ce travail, une approche mathématique est proposée. Il s'agit de calculer les efforts aux limites, sansutiliser directement leurs expressions analytiques qui contiennent les dérivées spatiales. La méthode est basée sur un calculintégral de l'équation de mouvement de la structure considérée, multipliée par une fonction test, qui vérifie des conditions auxlimites particulières. Ces conditions permettent d'extraire, lors du développement du calcul, les efforts recherchés à la limite dudomaine (efforts tranchant ou moment fléchissant).La technique est développée dans les cas mono dimensionnel (poutre) et bidimensionnel (plaque). Dessimulations numériques illustrent la méthode, testent la robustesse de la méthode, les effets de différent bruits de mesure surl'identification, et établissent les limites spatiales et fréquentielles de l'approche.     International audience; Flows past bluff bodies show turbulent near wall behavior in various conditions. For example, for a high Reynolds incident flow, the boundary layer at front side of a circular cylinder may show a transition to a turbulent boundary layer. After separation, the back of the cylinder is in contact with the turbulent wake. Analogously, the turbulent wake of a first obstacle can hit the front of a second one.

    Straubing's wreath product principle provides a description of the languages recognized by the wreath product of two monoids. A similar principle for ordered semigroups is given in this paper. Applications to language theory extend standard results of the theory of varieties to positive varieties. They include a characterization of positive locally testable languages and syntactic descriptions of the operations L ? La and L ? LaA*. Next we turn to concatenation hierarchies. It was shown by Straubing that the n-th level Bn of the dot-depth hierarchy is the variety Vn * LI, where LI is the variety of locally trivial semigroups and Vn is the n-th level of the Straubing-Thérien hierarchy. We prove that a similar result holds for the half levels. It follows in particular that a level or a half level of the dot-depth hierarchy is decidable if and only if the corresponding level of the Straubing-Thérien hierarchy is decidable.

    Rang CNRS : 1; International audience; We compare the performance of the Boston Immediate Acceptance (IA) and Gale–Shapley Deferred Acceptance (DA) mechanisms in a laboratory setting where we increase the number of participants per match. In our experiment, we first increase the number of students per match from 4 to 40; when we do so, participant truth-telling increases under DA but decreases under IA, leading to a decrease in efficiency under both mechanisms. Furthermore, we find that DA remains more stable than IA, regardless of scale. We then further increase the number of participants per match to 4,000 through the introduction of robots. When robots report their preferences truthfully, we find that scale has no effect on human best response behavior. By contrast, when we program the robots to draw their strategies from the distribution of empirical human strategies, we find that our increase in scale increases human ex-post best responses under both mechanisms.

    La mondialisation des marchés, les changements d’habitudes de consommation et les préoccupations croissantes concernant la sécurité alimentaire et l’environnement sont des éléments moteurs pour le développement des films d’emballage comestibles/biodégradables antimicrobiens. Une utilisation en masse de ce type de film est dépendante principalement des verrous technologiques car le mode de fabrication actuellement utilisé pour ce genre de film consiste à utiliser un procédé (voie solvant) qui n’est pas toujours adapté à une production importante et continue. L’étude présentée ici permet de montrer la possibilité d’obtenir des films comestibles antimicrobiens à partir de caséinate de sodium en utilisant les procédés traditionnels de la plasturgie : extrusion bi-vis et extrusion-gonflage. Grâce aux optimisations des paramètres d’élaboration tels que la température de transformation, le taux de cisaillement et le taux de plastifiant, les matériaux contenant un agent actif naturel : le lysozyme, la nisine ou la natamycine ont gardé en partie leurs activités antimicrobiennes. Par des caractérisations mécaniques et physico-chimiques des films thermoplastiques, il a été démontré que ces films ont des propriétés mécaniques et barrières similaires à ceux fabriqués par voie solvant. Ces propriétés dépendent principalement du taux de plastifiant. Ainsi, il est possible de fabriquer des films comestibles antimicrobiens de caséinate de sodium avec de bonnes propriétés mécaniques et barrières qui ne sont pas affectées par la transformation thermomécanique et qui peuvent être adaptées en fonctions des applications en variant le taux de plastifiant Because food market becomes international, consumers are changing their habits and they are more concerned about food security and environmental issues, there are driving forces for the development of edible/biodegradable antimicrobial packaging films. However, fabrication process (solution-casting) of these kinds of films isn’t always suitable for a continuous industrial big production. The present study demonstrates the suitability of sodium caseinate based edible antimicrobial films to be fabricated by some conventional plastic transformation processes: twinscrew extrusion and blown-film extrusion. Thanks to the optimizations of elaboration parameters such as extrusion temperature, shear and plasticizer ratio, the materials incorporated with one of the following active agents: lysozyme, nisin or natamycin, partially kept their antimicrobial activity. Physical-chemical film characterization of films emphasized that the type of transformation process doesn’t have any influence on tensile or gas barrier properties. These properties are mainly affected by plasticizer type and content. Thus, sodium caseinate based edible antimicrobial films can be produced successfully by thermo-mechanical processes without losing good mechanical and gas barrier properties
